2014 Season Preview: Relief Pitchers
Two redshirt seniors, Travis Thomas and Miles McQuaig, will lead the way for the VMI bullpen this season. Thomas returns after undergoing Tommy John elbow surgery late in the 2012 season and missing all of last year, while McQuaig enters his final season after going 0-1 with a 4.50 ERA in 24 innings in 2013.

Sophomore Taylor Edens is back after a revelatory freshman campaign, in which he posted a sterling 2.52 ERA, and veterans Rian Ellis and Jonathan Kelley should see time as well.

In addition, a cast of others will be looked to for innings out of the bullpen this year, a cast that includes sophomore Jason Stafford, redshirt freshman Ryan Bennett and three first-year players, left-hander Austin Heenan and right-handers Jack Gomersall and Blaine Lafin, who has been excellent in preseason.

Both Heenan and Gomersall come to VMI with excellent pedigree, as Gomersall was last year’s National District Pitcher of the Year and Heenan was the 2012’s state strikeout leader while pitching for Nandua HS.
