This group must replace three-year starter Josh Favaro, but the position should be in good hands with ample depth headed by redshirt sophomore Mario Thompson (Newport News, Va.) who had served as an understudy the past two seasons but saw limited action in a reserve role.

Thompson has good hands and has the ability to stretch out yards after catch and has also played special teams. He enters 2011 with a good year in off-season conditioning and caught two passes for 51 yards in the final spring scrimmage.

Depth at the tight end position will also come from sophomore Will Lucas (Hartsville, S.C), who was moved from fullback after playing there as a true freshman, and has looked good in his new role. Redshirt junior Robbie White (Midlothian, Va.) could also contribute.
