2010 Lacrosse Schedule:
For the third consecutive season, VMI lacrosse will open its campaign at Navy-Marine Corps Memorial Stadium by taking on the Midshipmen of the Naval Academy. During last year’s season-opening clash between the clubs, VMI had a good showing, leading early and taking a 5-5 tie into the locker room before Navy’s stifling defense proved too much in the second half, and the home team pulled away for the victory.
A trip to West Point follows the Navy visit, as VMI and Army will do battle on Feb. 20 before the Keydets return home for their home opener. Jacksonville University visits Lexington on Feb. 27 in a contest that will mark the first meeting between the programs.
VMI will also take on Vermont for the first time this year (Mar. 13), while doing battle with the newest member of the Metro Athletic Conference, Detroit-Mercy for the initial time as well (Mar. 27). Perhaps VMI’s toughest test on the road comes Mar. 9, as they travel up the Interstate to battle Virginia in Charlottesville. The Keydets have never beaten the Cavaliers, and this year’s contest will be a tall order for the visitors.
MAAC play opens up Mar. 20 with a visit from Marist. Following the trip to Detroit, VMI journeys to the Bronx to take on perennial contender Manhattan, before playing three of their final five games at home. Saint Joseph’s and Wagner will visit Foster Stadium before the Keydets close out their season May 1, as VMI plays host to rival Canisius on Senior Day.
