VMI Wrestling Tradition

VMI Wrestling has a proud Championship tradition.  The program boasts a pair of All-Americans in Charlie Branch ’95 and Leslie Apedoe ’99 (link to their bios on the All-American page under History).  Branch became the first Keydet to win four Southern Conference Championships in a combination of two different weight classes, while Apedoe captured each of his four SoCon titles at heavyweight.  Branch became the program’s first All-American by placing fourth at the 1994 NCAA Championships at 142 lbs., while Apedoe followed five years later when he placed sixth at heavyweight in the 1999 NCAA Championships.

In team competition, the Keydets have won no less than 10 Southern Conference titles, with recent successes coming in the mid-90’s, when the Keydets either claimed three shared or outright titles in a five-year span.
