Season Preview: 174 & 184:

Talking about the 174 and 184-pound weight classes together may be appropriate for the Keydets this season.  While there is depth at 174 lbs., it seems likely one of those contestants will be slotted to move up to 184 lbs. to fill a hole throughout the season.

Leading the charge will be sophomore Andrew Szymborski, who won 12 matches while competing at both 174 lbs. and 184 lbs. as a freshman.   The Indiana native placed twice last season, including a fourth-place showing at the SoCon Championships, while going 2-3 against league foes during the regular season.  Szymborski has shown a renewed dedication in the practice room this fall, and could be a force for the Keydets this season.

Another sophomore that will be in the mix is Vinnie Gallo, who wrestled 25 matches during his freshman campaign.  While moving between three weight classes, Gallo saw his most success at the lightest of the three, 165 lbs, where he won five matches while splitting a pair of duals there.  Perhaps the New Jersey native’s most impressive stat came in that he won four of his six matches via pin, the second-most on the team.

Three freshmen will also be expected to contribute between the two classes.  Evan Dill and John Dommert are two state qualifiers that each bring strong pedigrees to the program.  Jesse Wiley, meanwhile, is an impressive athlete that will see time on the mat.
