Season Preview: 157 & 165:
Three different wrestlers will have a shot at topping the Keydet depth chart at 157 lbs. Sophomore Joe Munno is expected to move up from 149 lbs., where he wrestled 28 matches a season ago. A placewinner at the Southern Conference Championships as a freshman, Munno will be challenged by fellow sophomore Matt Brock. Brock saw a considerable amount of time on the mat last season for the Keydets and could be a force to be reckoned with this year.
At 165 lbs., the Keydets will likely count on a freshman with a strong pedigree to man the weight class in 2009-10. Conor Black was a two-time Virginia AAA State placewinner for Mountain View, placing third as a senior at 171 lbs. In his career, Black went 172-27, holding the school’s career marks for wins, takedowns, technical falls and pins, coming in with 100 in his four years. Regarded as a hard-working, aggressive grappler, Black will be pushed in the practice room by Bryce Garrison, a transfer who wrestled for three-time defending AAA State Champions Colonial Forge in high school.
