Wrestling Coaches:
VMI Wrestling counts among its many assets the expertise of one of the longest-tenured coaches in the sport.
John “Rocky” Trudgeon is in his 25th season in Lexington, taking the program to unprecedented heights during his career. The three-time State Coach of the Year and four-time SoCon Coach of the Year was most recently recognized by his peers when he was inducted into the Virginia Chapter of the National Wrestling Hall of Fame in April 2009. Under Trudgeon’s tutelage, VMI has captured three SoCon Co-Championships and received votes in the Top 25 Coaches’ Poll, while six Keydets have placed in the Top 12 in the NCAA Championships.
Two-time All-American Chris Skretkowicz is currently in his fourth season as the program’s assistant coach. A three-time CAA champion at 197 lbs. while competing for Hofstra, Skretkowicz has already tutored a pair of Keydets that have combined to win three Southern Conference titles in Corry Murray (2007- 197 lbs.) and Josh Wine (2008 & 2009- 285 lbs.).
