Season Preview: 141 & 149:

Sophomore David Yost gives the Keydets a returning starter at 141 lbs.  A three-time placewinner at the Virginia state championships, Yost was thrown to the fire as a freshman, ranking second on the team by wrestling 29 matches.  The hope is that he will turn narrow losses from a season ago into victories as a sophomore, giving the team a solid performer at a key weight class.  Backing up Yost at 141 is Eli Faison, a freshman from Chesapeake, Va. that brings great athleticism to the program.

The Keydets return another starter at 149 lbs., as senior Michael Long is slated to return to the weight after moving up to 157 lbs. late last season.  Long saw success at both classes last season, winning 11 matches in all, posting a 2-1 mark in duals at 157.  Sophomore Jamie Hardey and freshman Mike Burnett will vie for backup roles behind Long at 149.  Hardey didn’t see much time last season, but has honed his technique in the offseason, while Burnett brings excellent credentials, including a placing at the Virginia State AAA Championships last season, into his freshman campaign.
