This is VMI Track & Field:
VMI Track and Field boasts a storied history, with 36 Track and Field or Cross Country Conference Championships since the program’s inception. Several All-Americans have been a part of the squad as well, including Donnie Cowart ’09, an All-American in the 3,000-meter steeplechase.
After a long association with the Southern Conference (some 65 years), which saw all the team’s conference titles and the introduction of women’s programs, VMI moved to the Big South in the 2003-04 season and has improved steadily since. The Keydets posted their best finishes in the conference last year, earning runner-up placings at both the indoor and outdoor conference championships.
With the recruitment of several highly touted freshman, as well as returners like Felix Kitur, a four-time Big South champion and Hannah Granger, a six-time All-Conference honoree, and coaches like Darrin Webb, the 2009 Big South Men’s Indoor Coach of the Year and Paul Spangler, the 2009 Big South Women’s Cross Country Coach of the Year, the future looks bright for VMI Track and Field.
