James Alexander will lead this year’s men’s sprinters, as the junior will join Chad Lawson and Satterwhite as team captains. Now one of the top sprinters in the Big South, Alexander won a 200-meter heat at last year’s outdoor IC4A Championships, clocking in at a personal-best 21.43 time, the third-fastest time of the preliminary round. He also finished fifth in both the 100 and 200-meters at the Big South Outdoor Championships, and had a fifth-place finish in the 200 at the indoor conference meet. This season, Alexander will break into the 400-meters for the first time, along with continuing to run his specialties.
The women’s sprints will be paced by team tri-captain Chandale Williams, who will look to break into the ECAC qualification times and improve upon the school records she currently holds in the 400-meters (56.97 outdoor, 57.29 indoor). She was fifth at both the indoor and outdoor conference championships in her trademark event. Williams also competes in the 200, where she has a lifetime best of 25.88, set in 2008. Danielle Dove has shown a great deal of improvement in preseason practice, and will be looked to to carry that over into the regular season.
